More information and description about as Assembly Line General Labourer

Workers on factory floors and other manufacturing facilities generally have well-defined tasks, articulated by their job titles, such as assembler, machinist or inspector.

That still leaves many tasks unaccounted for, such as cleaning production floors, arranging tools, or turning equipment on and off. General labourers are responsible for this additional work.

The duties of general labourers vary by the industry in which they work.

According to the California Employment Development Department, automotive repair and maintenance was the biggest employer of labourers, who performed such jobs as changing oil, cleaning headlights and rotating tires.

Another big employer was printing, where labourers loaded and removed paper and inks from printing machines.

In bakeries and tortilla manufacturing, labourers opened cans and other food containers, checked produce for freshness, and measured and mixed ingredients.

DUTIES:
General labourers clean and lubricate equipment, keep manufacturing areas free of debris and dirt, and set out or put away tools.

They follow instructions from more experienced employees to operate machines, hold or supply materials and tools, and load and unload items from machines and assembly lines.

They also locate parts, tag them with identifying text and numbers, and record information such as gauge readings, products produced and manufacturing times.

If they locate defective products or observe equipment malfunctions, helpers must report the problems to higher-level employees, and if necessary, assist with any fixes.
